Those who like Korean food can head to Tongkun, which opened in Solaris Mont' Kiara in September. Tongkun is a popular restaurant chain in South Korea that is famed for its authentic barbecue food.

Tongkun, which means “big size” – a reference to the portions of meat – serves ethnic Korean meat dishes that are specially marinated with more than 27 spices.

Choice beef: The Waygu Kkotdeungsim or Grilled Beef Rib Eye Roll and the Jin Galbi Sal or Beef Short Rib.

The meats undergo a special five-step marinating process that involves boiling, cooling to room temperature, marinating with spices, chilling and putting the final touches to the meats before they are served, to be barbecued at the table.

According to Wee Joon Ho, managing director of Dynasty Hallmark Sdn Bhd, the local franchisee of Tongkun, the restaurant is the first Korean restaurant chain in Malaysia.

“This restaurant is very famous in Korea,, where there are about 98 outlets. We brought the chain here because we wanted to give people here a taste of the real food and environment in our country,” he said, adding that they hoped to cater to the many foreigners in the vicinity of the outlet in addition to the local Chinese community.

The outlet is unpretentious, with a homely feel.

“We have given the place an organic and homely environment, hence the use of a lot of shades of green, which helps soften the environment,” Wee explained. The tables come with grill and steam absorber.

“We use premium meats like wagyu, which is considered the most tender, succulent and tastiest beef in the world. For our pork dishes, we use the highest quality local pork,” he said, adding that separate grilling equipment was used for the beef dishes to respect the sensitivities of patrons who did not eat pork.

“For our side dishes, there two sets of menu which we rotate every day,” Wee added. Among the side dishes are the popular kimchi and scrambled eggs.

Patrons can also look forward to complementing their meal with Korean ginseng tea, Soju (Korean liquor) and Bak Sek Ju, a ginseng liquor which is said to promote longevity because of the herbs, like ginseng, ginger, liquorice, yarrow, cinnamon, vine and arrowroot, that are infused into the wine.

Prices of the meal sets range from RM15 to RM150.

Last week,i went for dinner at Cowboy Station Steak House, Kelana Jaya. The place is quite ok,with nice table,light,big screen tv. The steak is OK..but i much prefer F1 steakhouse for the steak,but here there are lot of choice of drinks. The price is quite expensive for two set of steaks with Strawberry milk shake+lychee drink = RM74. But nevermind because the waiter/waitress were very friendly. 4 star for service. If you wanna give a try,Cowboy Station is a recommended steak house.

It is kampung-style cuisine with a difference at Restoran Duyong in Kelab Darul Ehsan during the Ramadan buffet promotion.

The promotion offers an array of traditional Malay food.

Chef Mustafa Kamalahmad Sarbani, who leads the team at the restaurant, said most Malay food served at restaurants these days were not authentic.

“With our mixed culture, the food served has a Malaysian identity to it.

“For the promotion, we have authentic Malay food,'' he said.

Among these are Gulai Tempoyak, Gulai Kawah and Asam Pedas.

The highlight will be the Grilled Ox Tongue. Mustafa said the Malay delicacy was a popular dish during Ramadan at the outlet.

Appetisers: Ulams are also part of the buffet spread at Duyong Restaurant.

“Last year, we ordered about 1,000kg of ox tongue,'' he said.

To prepare the delicacy, the ox tongues are marinated with spices like oregano, basil and local spices such as cardamom and cinnamon for two days.

The ox tongues are then boiled to remove the layer of skin before it is baked.

“It is important to remove the skin after the marinating process to preserve the juiciness of the meat,” he said.

It is then served with air assam and other sauces like mushroom and black pepper.

The buffet is priced at RM43++ for adults and RM26++ for children.

VOGUE Cafe at Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel invites diners to share the spirit of Ramadan with family and friends, as they break fast with dishes from its buffet spread that features an international theme.

These can be accompanied with Nasi Tomato or Nasi Briyani, or the perennial Ramadan dish – Bubur Lambuk.

The fresh seafood counter is laden with juicy oysters, shrimps, crabs and other crustaceans for the seafood aficionado, while Japanese food fans can take their pick from the sushi and sashimi platters.

The carving and cooking station are where the Whole Salmon Baked in Rock Salt, Roasted Rib Eye, Roast Beef, pastas and noodles are waiting to be dished out to hungry diners.

Specialities like Roasted Leg of Lamb with Honey, Balsamic Vinegar and Caramelised Garlic Cloves are varied on a daily basis.

“Another speciality is our Oyster Rocke-feller, which we prepare by baking the oyster, then topping it with cream sauce, cheese and spinach,” said Vogue Café junior sous chef Alex Yee.

The Chocoholic Corner also comes highly recommended for those who cannot get enough of chocolate desserts.

Choose from mouth-watering items like Green Tea Breakaway Chocolate, White Ro-che, Strawberry and Lemon Truffles, Choco-late Almond Nougat, Chocolate Branches and Dream Chocolate Brownies – all of which are prepared fresh daily by the hotel’s pastry department.

Alternatively, diners can go for desserts like Malay kueh, fresh fruits or pudding.

Over at TEMPTationS, a café located at the East Wing Lobby Level of the hotel, diners can whet their appetite with dishes from ten different stations, including Salad, Japanese, Chinese and Western stations.
