Sri Nirwana Maju Banana Leaf Rice

If you’re the kind that likes lazing about on weekends on the couch, in front of the TV, and basically just lock yourself away from the world with a bunch of friends, keep this in mind – lazy days like those are incomplete without a satisfying meal. It’s almost like having a Banana Split, without the ice cream. So if you’re scratching your head wondering where’s a good place to head to in order to maximize your lazy day, go to Sri Nirwana Maju.

Situated in Bangsar in a humble little shop lot, don’t be surprised to see tables packed with salivating customers by the sidewalk. Turn on or turn off, it’s definitely a sign that says “the food is good!”. Sri Nirwana Maju serves most of their dishes on banana leaf, which is exactly one of its uniqueness - Roti canai, thosai, chapatti or rice, you’ll get it on a banana leaf!

So what’s good? Practically everything! Depending on what time of day you’re there, of course. For breakfast, give the thosai's a try. Of course, don’t just have your thosai plain. Have it with some chutney, curry or even dhal.

For lunch and dinner, do go for the banana leaf rice. Order a couple of side dishes like the Fried Sotong. Fried with aromatic spices and lime juice, the sotong is a highly recommended dish to have with your rice. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, you’d definitely regret if you don’t give it a hit.

p/s:i tried it before, the dishes is so nice!seriously!

Another good dish to have with your rice is the Chicken Masala. Full of Indian spices, the chicken is cooked till tender and succulent. One bite and you’d think you were in Banana Leaf Rice heaven (if there is one!).

Halfway through your meal, you may find yourself in a bit of dilemma. That is, you’re not sure if you have enough to eat. Fret not, just help yourself to some curries from the aluminium pots they have flying around from table to table carrying spice laden dhal, fish and chicken curries, and be generous with each helping. Also look out for their famed Fried Bitter Gourd which always has successfully converted non-vegetable lovers to vegetable-lovers!

Mouth-watering, flavoursome meals and lazy days, now that’s what you’d call a perfect weekend spent!
